I was keen to work with a coach in order to help me navigate my way through a very difficult decision about my job. As a new mum I was looking ahead to returning to work after maternity leave, and I had submitted a request for flexible working. I was hoping to move from full time to part time upon my return, however the request was unfortunately refused. I was offered only work options that were pretty much incompatible with childcare. What happened was a complete shock, and I felt that I had been left high and dry by my employer.

My choice was to slog and work long hours and not see my little boy, or…?

I arranged a session with Beth to try and help me make sense of it all. At the start of it I was in tears and feeling pretty desperate about the whole situation. I had always worked, and for the most part had enjoyed working. Work had also been big part of my identity. And of course it helps pay the bills. But I also had a much longed for son who needed stability and routine.

Not to say it was easy by any means and it certainly felt a bit scary, but I knew in my heart it was right for my family and I.
